COMSTECH, the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is set to host the Sixth Meeting of the OIC Steering Committee for the Implementation of the OIC Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Agenda 2026 from April 22 to 24 at its Secretariat in Islamabad.
The meeting will bring together heads and representatives from 17 OIC institutions across countries including Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Türkiye, Jordan, Uganda, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Pakistan. The core objective is to review progress, identify joint initiatives, and set future directions for the OIC’s science and technology agenda.
Ahead of the conference, Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, chaired a high-level preparatory meeting to ensure effective planning and smooth execution of the sessions. Senior officials, program managers, and department heads participated to finalize logistics and agenda priorities.
The STI Agenda 2026, launched after the first OIC Summit on STI in Astana in 2017, aims to strengthen research collaboration, technology transfer, and knowledge exchange among member states to support sustainable development.
Key objectives of the upcoming meeting include:
Assessing member states’ progress on STI Agenda 2026 goals
Identifying new partnerships and collaborative projects
Setting future action plans aligned with the proposed extended STI Agenda
Reviewing institutional performance under the Abu Dhabi Declaration (2022)
Institutions scheduled to present their progress, challenges, and recommendations include the OIC General Secretariat, Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB), ISESCO, UNA, IOFS, SESRIC, SMIIC, and others.
As the central coordinating body, COMSTECH will continue to facilitate inter-institutional collaboration, monitor implementation efforts, and ensure sustained momentum toward realizing the strategic goals of the OIC-STI Agenda 2026.
