Recommendations ready for policymakers as
National Dialogue concludes
National Dialogue – Eradicating Engineers’ unemployment through Entrepreneurial settings” concluded with thought-provoking recommendations and guidelines to frame policies for the engineering profession thus utilizing this skilled workforce as one of the key players in rescuing the country from a severe economic crisis.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Engr. Prof. Ahsan Iqbal.
In his address, he lauded the idea of holding this national dialogue to find out ways for job creation through engineering entrepreneurial endeavors. He stressed that engineers should play an active role in transforming Pakistan into an export-based economy.
He also invited proposals from the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) in this regard and assured to help in overcoming the bottlenecks, if any, in the pursuit of this objective.
The minister also announced the upcoming 20,000 National On-job training opportunities, to be officially launched at the Diamond Jubilee of Pakistan.
He shared that out of 20,000 vacancies, 15000 shall go to engineers only.
Chairman PEC Engr. Najeeb Haroon shared the summarised version of all the recommendations, received by all the provinces, Islamabad, AJK, and Gilgit Baltistan.
He expressed his keen interest in extending every effort that is required from the engineering fraternity to work as an economic engine for the country, given the due space and opportunity.
Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain, Convener Innovation & Entrepreneurship Committee (IEC) said in her vote of thanks that the event made them learn to agree to disagree and also the importance of diversity and co-existence.
The recommendations presented will help the committee and PEC adjust the practices and activities as per the expectations of the engineers. She extended her profound gratitude and said that Prof. Ahsan Iqbal’s words of wisdom are a valuable addition to the final recommendations of the national dialogue.
In the end, she appreciated the members of the Organising Committee, for their hard work and dedication.

HEC Chairman, VC Quest agree to work for quality education
Prof. Dr. Saleem Raza Samo, Vice chancellor, Quaid-e-Awam University of Science, Engineering & Technology (QUEST) Nawabshah had a wonderful meeting with Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman, Higher Education Commission (HEC), along with Tahir Mahmood Chaudhry and discussed how to improve the quality of education, mutual responsibility for solving Pakistani issues mainly 13 challenges, including education, energy, healthcare, water, food safety and security, exports, digitalization, industry-academia collaboration, placement, minimizing extremism, support to the government to cope up with financial management through institutional excellence, better self-management.
Chairman HEC assured the participants of extending every support by HEC required to achieve these targets. Dr. Samo shared the achievement of QUEST and alignment in this regard..n

To celebrate the 75th Independence Day, Pakistan Cables employee volunteers visited a children’s Emergency Room to spend time with the children admitted to the ER facility for treatment. Volunteers distributed toys among children creating a memorable day for all involved. Prior to the volunteer activity, the Company also made a donation to ChildLife Foundation, an NGO that manages the Children’s Emergency Room at Sindh Government Hospital Korangi 5, Karachi.

Thar coal put to work to meet national energy needs: Imtiaz Shaikh
Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh has said that the provincial government was trying to bring Thar coal to work to meet the energy needs of the country so that the country could be saved from the economic crisis by saving a huge amount of money spent on the import of oil and gas.Shaikh met the officials of the Shanghai Electric Company at the energy department office.
The energy minister was briefed on the use of underground water at the Thar and the supply of water to the Thar Coal Project from the Nabi Sir Vijehar pipeline.Imtiaz Shaikh said that the Sindh government was working expeditiously on projects in Thar Coal Field to meet the country’s energy needs from the Thar Coal Power Project and trying to provide all possible facilities to the companies working on the projects.n
