Mr. Yang Jie, Executive Director and Chairman of China Mobile Communications Corporation (CMCC), led a high-level delegation to the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) to explore opportunities for collaboration in research, innovation, and emerging technologies.
The delegation was warmly received by Dr. Rizwan Riaz, Pro-Rector for Research, Innovation & Commercialisation (RIC), who delivered a comprehensive briefing on NUST’s vision, achievements, and strategic priorities. Dr. Riaz highlighted the university’s strong emphasis on international partnerships and its vibrant ecosystem that actively fosters academia-industry linkages.
Following the briefing, the delegation toured the National Science & Technology Park (NSTP), where they engaged with R&D firms and startups working on innovative solutions in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, and Educational Technology (Ed-Tech). The visitors also explored SINES, Pakistan’s first interdisciplinary research cluster at NUST, as well as the Center of Emerging Technologies, which includes the National Center of AI.
During the visit, both sides held in-depth discussions on potential collaboration in emerging technologies and innovation-driven initiatives. The NUST team presented successful examples of industrial partnerships and proposed joint ventures such as collaborative labs, research projects, and training programs to establish a meaningful framework for cooperation.
Mr. Yang Jie expressed keen interest in the proposals and acknowledged the need for concrete steps to strengthen ties between CMCC and NUST. He especially emphasized potential joint efforts in cutting-edge fields like 6G, Artificial Intelligence, and Supercomputing.
The visit marks a promising step towards strategic collaboration between Pakistan and China in shaping the future of digital innovation and technological advancement. – PR/ERMD
