National Dialogue – Eradicating Engineers’ unemployment through Entrepreneurial settings” concluded with thought-provoking recommendations and guidelines to frame policies for the engineering profession thus utilizing this skilled workforce as one of the key players in rescuing the country from a severe economic crisis.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Engr. Prof. Ahsan Iqbal.
In his address, he lauded the idea of holding this national dialogue to find out ways for job creation through engineering entrepreneurial endeavors. He stressed that engineers should play an active role in transforming Pakistan into an export-based economy.
He also invited proposals from the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) in this regard and assured to help in overcoming the bottlenecks, if any, in the pursuit of this objective.
The minister also announced the upcoming 20,000 National On-job training opportunities, to be officially launched at the Diamond Jubilee of Pakistan.
He shared that out of 20,000 vacancies, 15000 shall go to engineers only.
Chairman PEC Engr. Najeeb Haroon shared the summarised version of all the recommendations, received by all the provinces, Islamabad, AJK, and Gilgit Baltistan.
He expressed his keen interest in extending every effort that is required from the engineering fraternity to work as an economic engine for the country, given the due space and opportunity.
Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain, Convener Innovation & Entrepreneurship Committee (IEC) said in her vote of thanks that the event made them learn to agree to disagree and also the importance of diversity and co-existence.
The recommendations presented will help the committee and PEC adjust the practices and activities as per the expectations of the engineers. She extended her profound gratitude and said that Prof. Ahsan Iqbal’s words of wisdom are a valuable addition to the final recommendations of the national dialogue.
In the end, she appreciated the members of the Organising Committee, for their hard work and dedication.
