Federal Health Minister Commends Pakistan-Made ICU Ventilator During Visit to Saman-e-Shifa Foundation

The visit highlighted growing national efforts to reduce dependence on costly imported medical equipment and strengthen the country’s capacity to produce advanced biomedical devices. The Minister examined the ventilator firsthand and praised the initiative, calling it a “breakthrough achievement” for Pakistan’s medical and engineering sectors.

During his visit, the Minister also attended a special presentation outlining a proposed roadmap for future collaboration between the Government of Pakistan and SSF. The roadmap aims to establish sustainable, indigenous solutions for the healthcare sector by promoting partnerships between local manufacturers, research institutions, and public sector bodies.

At the conclusion of the meeting, members of the SSF Board and distinguished guests extended warm greetings, reaffirming their commitment to advancing healthcare innovation in Pakistan. SSF leadership confirmed that a three-point agenda had been presented during the meeting, with detailed plans to be unveiled in the coming days.

Saman-e-Shifa Foundation (SSF) is a non-profit organization working to develop an ecosystem for indigenous, cost-effective medical device manufacturing in Pakistan. Its mission includes fostering collaboration between industry and academia and bridging the gap between engineering and medical science to utilize local talent for national growth.

In partnership with SSF, Alsons Group has emerged as a trailblazer in the medical manufacturing space. It is the only company in Pakistan to have developed and manufactured an ICU ventilator for adults, which has been approved by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). The collaboration reflects a shared vision to replace billions of dollars in medical device imports with locally made, high-quality solutions.

As the government increases its support for public-private partnerships in healthcare, the SSF-Alsons alliance stands as a shining example of how “Made in Pakistan” can evolve from a slogan to a national success story. – Engineering Review
