engineers hold a grand dialogue

Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) with its mandate of regulating the quality of engineering education and practice of engineering, is functioning as a key driving force for achieving rapid and sustainable growth in all national, economic, and social fields. Before entering into policymaking and designing activities for concerned audiences, it is always a good idea to seek direction from real stakeholders, listening to affectees of the existing system and policies, thus getting better suggestions and fruitful deliberations on realistic solutions to be implemented.
For this purpose, PEC Innovation & Entrepreneurship Committee (ICE) organized a National Dialogue to Eradicate Engineers’ Unemployment through Entrepreneurial Settings in Islamabad.
The inaugural was presided over by Secretary MoST. The Chairman, of PEC extended the welcome remarks and gave his input for discourse during the event. Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain, Convener ICE, apprised the audience about the main concept and objectives to be achieved through this dialogue. Mr. Ghulam Memon, Secretary MoST appreciated the efforts and ensured the support for any such initiative required from the Ministry. Convener CIRC Engr. Sikandar Khatak, Convener AILC Engr. Zahid Hussain Khand were also in attendance. Engr. Zubair Shaikh (Moderator Sindh), Engr. Riasat Ali Changazi. (Moderator Baluchistan), Engr. Nasir Baig (Moderator ICT, GB & AJK), Engr. Javed Iqbal (Moderator KPK) and Engr. Imran Khan Cheema (Moderator Punjab) gave their precious time to anchor the dialogue.
Background
The program was planned to be an event to provide a platform for all sectors of engineering graduates (employed, unemployed, self-employed, employers, etc.).
Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain, the Convener of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Committee called nominations for the event, from Chairman PEC, and Vice Chairmen PEC of all provinces including CT, AJK & GB.
Each group was to present provincial recommendations for the issue followed by inter-provincial discussions. The discussions were to be concluded as recommendations to be presented at the Closing Ceremony in front of all PEC Vice Chairmen, Chairman, Convener of relevant Committees of PEC and concerned Ministry(ies). Innovation & Entrepreneurship Committee has planned to design and plan future activities in line with the recommendations received at the end of the event thereby making the role of the Committee more relevant, effective, and owned by all stakeholders.
The event pronouncement aimed to encompass policy recommendations and a way forward to eradicate engineers’ unemployment as well as enhancing their skill-set for contribution in the National development as major operators of the economic engine of the country.
