IEEEP collaborates with FAKT for organizing conference at Expo Centre.

The Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Pakistan (IEEEP), established in 1969 for the dissemination of technical knowledge and promotion of engineering profession has planned to organize an Industrial Exhibition in collaboration with FAKT titled “Electricity Pakistan and Conference on 15 -17th March 2019″ at Expo Centre, Lahore.

An IEEEP communication says ‘Electricity Pakistan 2019’ is the largest exhibition and conference dedicated to energy, storage and power technology we’re bringing it to Lahore Pakistan, as Electricity Pakistan is the only dedicated electrical exhibition in Pakistan like no other.

Electricity Pakistan 2019 offers trade exhibitors & visitors countless opportunities to display the latest products, services, and innovative solutions from the energy power sector.

Polytechnic Institute Mithi to be upgraded

Thar Foundation of Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) has partnered with Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) to upgrade Government Polytechnic Institute (GPI) Mithi enabling it to produce good quality associate engineers who can compete in the job market, especially in rapidly increasing mining and power sector projects in Thar.

The Institute established in the year 2003 offers Diploma Associate Engineer (DAE) and certificate courses in various disciplines including Electrical, Mining and Civil technologies.
Under this partnership department of Mechanical technology will be established, faculty will be trained, all laboratories will be upgraded with modern equipment and curriculum will be updated to meet market needs.

Thar Foundation SECMC will provide scholarships to students of Thar to acquire DAE and certificate courses to compete in the job market. The first batch under this program is currently being enrolled

ECNEC approves 6 major projects

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on has approved development projects in various areas of the country.

The ECNEC discussed and accorded approval of the project for evacuation of power from hydro power projects of Suki Kinari, Mansehra in KP, Kohala distt, Muzaffarabad and Mahal, Bagh in AJK at a cost of Rs.79,929.73 million.

The main objective of the project is construction of 500 kV transmission network to provide interconnection facilities for evacuation of electricity from the above mentioned projects being constructed under CPEC.

The ECNEC discussed and approved Sind Solar Energy Project (SSEP) at a cost of Rs. 12,848.11 million. The project aims to support the scale up of solar power in Sindh province and increase access to electricity. The project will also improve energy security and fulfill Pakistan’s international commitments on climate change.

It also directed the Power Division to come up with a report covering all facets relating to power production, its effective evacuation/transmission and distribution. The report ECNEC observed would help set a direction for undertaking power projects in future. The meeting approved rehabilitation project of Dargai hydroelectric power station, Malakand, KP at a cost Rs. 4,050.364 million. Completion of the project will help enhance the capacity of the power station to 22 MW.

The meeting considered proposal from the Ministry of Water Resources to include Tangir Hydropower in the Diamer Basha Dam project and approved the revised cost of the project at Rs. 479.686 billion. The meeting discussed and approved Baluchistan Water Resource Development Project (Zhob and Mula river basins) at a cost of Rs. 16,453.40 million.
The project will benefit districts of Muslim Bagh, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi and part of Kalat in the Baluchistan province.

ECNEC was updated on the Peshawar Sustainable Bus Rapid Transit Corridor Project. The Committee was informed about the expansion in scope of work and other issues necessitating revision in project cost.

Taking into account the facts, ECNEC approved the revised cost of the project at Rs. 66.437 billion with June 2019 as stipulated date of completion of project. The Provincial Govt. informed that a soft opening of the project will be held in March 2019.

The project envisages construction of 27.373 km long dedicated signal free BRT corridor, out of which 11.85 km will be at grade, 12.266 km elevated and 3.254 km through underpasses. In addition to the main BRT corridor, additional elevated structures having total length of 2.18 km will also be constructed.

Renault Trucks to be assembled at Port Qasim

Ghandhara Nissan Limited (GNL) plans to locally assemble Renault Trucks (RT) by end of 2019 at its site in Karachi’s Port Qasim.

At present, RT in partnership with GNL deals in full range of Renault trucks and all the vehicles are being imported in built up condition from Lyon, France.

GNL is also responsible for the distribution and after sales service of three new ranges, notified the company in a stock filing. Senior Vice President of RT, Olivier De Saint Meleuc said Pakistan is an important market and is developing with large infrastructure projects especially under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which requires robust and reliable trucks to cater to rising demands.

Chief Executive Officer GNL, Ahmed Kuli Khan Khattak said that local assembly will generate employment opportunities. He said that RT would comply 100 per cent with the demanding specifications in terms of safety required by all the major oil companies.

GNL officials say it is not a joint venture but an extension of the cooperation and distribution agreement signed between the two companies in early 2018. He said that the company is planning to assemble 100 units a year which may create over 100 direct jobs.

US delegates explore business opportunities in Pakistan

An eleven-member delegation of US businessmen, led by the Mayor of Bolingbrook (USA) Mr. Roger C Claar, held meetings with their Pakistani counterparts to ensure strong sector-specific liaison.

LCCI President Almas Hyder, Senior Vice President Khawaja Shahzad Nasir, Vice President Fahim-ur-Rehman Sehgal spoke highly about the trade and economic relations between Pakistan and United States of America. The LCCI Executive Committee Members and Lord Mayor Lahore Col (R) Mubasher Javed were also present on the occasion.

“It is a good opportunity to know each other,” the Mayor of Bolingbrook said adding the private sectors of the United States and Pakistan can take the mutual trade and economic relations to new heights. He hoped that businessmen of both the countries would capitalize on this visit and establish business relations.

He said that purpose of the visit of US delegates to Pakistan is to explore business opportunities and cultural exchanges that can mutually benefit both countries. The areas of interest of the delegation members are financial services, event planning, education, telecommunication solutions, and fuel injection pumps etc.

The Mayor appreciated LCCI role for promotion of trade and economic activities.

Almas Hyder said the US was the second largest trading partner of Pakistan. Among the top exporting and importing countries, US comes at 1st and 3rd places respectively. He said that the total bilateral trade in 2017 went as high as dollar 6.4 billion but it has the potential to get doubled in few years through favorable policy initiatives, he said. He said that exchange of trade delegations can greatly help in this connection.

He was of the view that development of private sector to private sector contacts was a need of the hour.

Also, the US delegation visited the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade. A broad-based discussion was held with the senior officials of PBIT over enhancement of bilateral trade and investment opportunities in Punjab.

A well-prepared presentation was made for the delegation representing the sectoral analysis of various sectors such as food and agriculture, automobile, IT, construction, textile, mining, pharmaceutical, surgical, tourism, retail, and logistics.

Highlighting the significance of Special Economic Zones, Mr. Burana said have offered attractive incentives, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and facilities and thus the zones would make Punjab a lucrative market for investors.
