In a bid to strengthen energy cooperation, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met with Mr. Wille Eerola, Honorary Consul General of Pakistan in Finland, and Mr. Alexandre Eykerman, Regional Director for the Middle East at Wärtsilä, to discuss potential collaborations in Pakistan’s energy sector.
The meeting centered on expanding bilateral ties in oil, gas, minerals, and renewable energy. Key discussions included leveraging Finnish expertise and research in biomass and relocating existing gensets to Jhimpir to complement wind power projects in the renewable energy-rich corridor.
Minister Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to modernizing its energy infrastructure and welcomed Wärtsilä’s technological solutions aimed at boosting efficiency and reducing the environmental footprint. He emphasized the government’s dedication to creating a business-friendly environment for foreign investors and promoting long-term strategic partnerships.
Mr. Eerola highlighted the growing global investor interest in Pakistan, calling it “unprecedented,” while Mr. Eykerman expressed Wärtsilä’s intent to deepen its engagement in the country. In addition to ongoing power sector projects, Wärtsilä is also involved in the Reko Diq mining project.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further explore opportunities in biomass and maintain continued engagement for sustainable energy development in Pakistan. – ENGINEERING REVIEW
