Kazakhstan’s geological archives hold over five million units of primary geological information gathered over the past 80 years, according to Yerlan Galiyev, Chairman of the National Geological Service, Kazinform News Agency reported.
Galiyev said that 3.8 million units — about 83% of the total — have already been digitized, covering textual reports, graphic materials, and magnetic media.
“By the end of 2025, we expect to reach 97.5% digitization, with a complete transition to digital format by the end of 2026,” Galiyev said during a government meeting.
He added that the initiative would lead to the creation of a national digital geological information repository, allowing for faster searches, detailed analysis, and seamless online data sharing without the need for paper documentation.
Earlier, Kazakhstan introduced Starlink satellite terminals to enhance communication in remote geological exploration areas, improving data transmission and connectivity in the field. – ERMD/APP
