Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a reduction of Rs4.04 per unit in electricity prices for the industrial sector, aiming to boost economic growth and support businesses.

Addressing a ceremony in the federal capital held in honour of leading exporters and prominent business figures, the prime minister said that the government’s role is not to run businesses but to create a conducive environment for economic activity.

He stated that the entire nation had made sacrifices, with the poor bearing significant hardships, and emphasized that Pakistan must now shift towards economic growth. The prime minister welcomed proposals from the business community and said that economic policies would be formulated through consultation with traders and industrialists. He added that political and military cooperation was opening new avenues for national development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan had achieved notable successes on the diplomatic and defence fronts, adding that following victory in Marka-e-Haq, the country had attained a distinctive position globally. He noted a visible change in international attitudes during his foreign visits and said the Pakistani passport was now viewed with greater respect worldwide.

He announced that award-winning businesspersons would be granted blue passports, and reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing industrial electricity tariffs by Rs4.04 per unit. The prime minister remarked that after Marka-e-Haq, world leaders were engaging more positively with Pakistan, and international outreach for investment had increased.

Referring to state-owned enterprises, he said the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was being conducted transparently and that future privatization initiatives would strictly adhere to transparency standards. He added that the government was introducing reforms and cutting expenditures worth billions of rupees.

The prime minister stressed that direct taxes should be reduced immediately, while indirect taxes should be collected from consumers and deposited into the national exchequer.

He further stated that export-led economic growth remained the government’s top priority, while significant steps were also being taken to promote the digital sector. The government, he said, would extend full support to PIA, expressing confidence that the national carrier would soon regain its lost stature.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded by saying that with the special cooperation of the Field Marshal, many critical issues had been resolved, adding that Pakistan would become so strong that India would be left stunned. – ER News Desk
