The meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain and attended by Iran’s Minister of Agriculture Jihad, Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh. Both sides reviewed progress on existing agreements and explored new opportunities to strengthen economic ties between the two neighboring countries.
During the discussions, Rana Tanveer Hussain recalled his official visit to Iran in 2025, where both countries agreed to expand trade in major agricultural commodities. He noted that Iran had shown interest in importing Pakistani rice, mangoes, and meat, emphasizing that Pakistan has the production capacity to meet the Iranian market’s demand for high-quality agricultural products.
The Iranian minister reiterated his country’s interest in importing meat from Pakistan, stating that Pakistan could potentially meet up to 60 percent of Iran’s meat import requirements.
He expressed confidence in the quality of Pakistani livestock products and stressed the need for efficient trade mechanisms to ensure a steady supply.
Both ministers reviewed progress made under previous bilateral understandings and agreed to implement commitments outlined in the joint communiqué within the next two months.
Relevant authorities were directed to expedite procedures and address bottlenecks affecting trade growth.
The meeting also examined the status of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Working Committee on Agriculture. The Iranian minister noted that the committee had already been established and called for making it fully operational to ensure the timely achievement of agreed objectives. Both sides agreed to hold regular meetings and strengthen coordination between technical experts and relevant institutions.
Rana Tanveer Hussain said enhanced agricultural cooperation would contribute to regional food security, attract investment, facilitate technology transfer, and support sustainable economic growth. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting bilateral trade and strengthening institutional cooperation in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
The Iranian minister also appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and stability and thanked the government for supporting initiatives aimed at fostering greater regional cooperation.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in Pakistan-Iran relations and pledged to continue working closely to unlock the full potential of agricultural trade, encourage private-sector participation, and improve connectivity between the two countries. ERMD
