The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has commenced gas production from the Sahito-1 discovery well in the Lower Goru Formation (Massive Sand) within the Khewari Exploration Licence area in Khairpur district, Sindh.
The company announced that the well is currently producing 6.0 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas, with output expected to increase as surface facilities are expanded in the coming months.
OGDCL had announced the gas discovery at Sahito-1 on March 26, 2026. To enable early commercialization of the find, the company laid a 6-inch, five-kilometre flowline linking the well to the Suleman Gathering Facility, from where the gas is processed at the Sinjhoro Plant.
Following processing, the gas is being supplied to the network of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGCL), contributing to the country’s domestic energy supply.
Located in Sindh’s Khairpur district, the Sahito-1 well falls under the Khewari Exploration Licence, where OGDCL operates the joint venture with a 75 percent working interest, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds the remaining 25 percent stake.
The start of production from Sahito-1 marks a significant step in OGDCL’s efforts to accelerate the development and commercialization of indigenous hydrocarbon resources. The project is expected to strengthen domestic gas supplies, reduce reliance on imported energy, and support Pakistan’s long-term energy security objectives.ERMD
