Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has urged graduates of the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) to contribute to Pakistan’s economic transformation through technology, innovation and research.
Addressing the NUST Master Convocation 2026 at the university’s main campus in Islamabad, the minister called on universities to serve as engines of economic growth by promoting research, technological advancement and innovation. He attended the ceremony as chief guest and was received by NUST Rector Dr Muhammad Zahid Latif.
The convocation awarded degrees to 66 PhD scholars, while 26 undergraduate students received President’s Gold Medals and 28 were presented with Chancellor’s Silver Medals in recognition of their academic achievements.
Welcoming the graduates, their families and faculty members, Dr Zahid said the occasion marked the beginning of a new phase in the graduates’ lives, bringing complex challenges and responsibilities. He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by their families in supporting their education.
The rector said NUST had developed into a leading institution committed to preparing students for academic excellence and meaningful contributions to society. He emphasised that graduates must go beyond acquiring knowledge and demonstrate honesty, integrity and dedication in their professional and personal lives.
Highlighting the importance of ethical leadership, Dr Zahid said education at NUST was centred on personal transformation, with morality and ethical values forming its foundation.
He added that amid rapid technological developments and the growing influence of artificial intelligence, NUST was focusing on emerging technologies and leadership skills to prepare graduates for an increasingly complex and fast-changing world. ERMD
