Abdul Aleem Khan has underscored Pakistan’s growing role as a vital “economic bridge” linking South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and Eurasia, during his address to the 88th Session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Inland Transport Committee in Geneva.
Speaking at the high-level forum, the federal minister for communications highlighted Pakistan’s world-class logistics infrastructure and cited the successful execution of more than 1,800 TIR (Transports Internationaux Routiers) operations as evidence of the country’s operational readiness to facilitate cross-border trade.
He invited global investors to participate in the M-6 Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway project, describing it as a high-yield opportunity offering nearly 30 percent guaranteed equity. The project, he said, would significantly enhance regional connectivity while providing sustainable and predictable returns to international stakeholders.
To further strengthen regional integration, the minister noted that Pakistan has allocated a dedicated 100-acre terminal at Gwadar Port for Central Asian states, while Karachi Port continues to serve as a key maritime gateway for landlocked neighboring countries.
Beyond infrastructure development, Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized a “digital and diplomatic revolution” aimed at streamlining trade processes. The Ministry of Communications is leading a comprehensive initiative for traffic data digitalization and transparency to ensure compliance with international laws and UN conventions.
He also highlighted the availability of Visa-on-Arrival facilities for citizens of 126 countries and collaborative efforts by the National Logistics Cell (NLC) with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to boost regional trade flows.
The minister concluded that Pakistan has moved beyond being merely a transit corridor and has positioned itself as an active hub for global economic activity and a catalyst for regional trade transformation. – ER News Desk
