Government Reviews Wheat Stocks, Says Supply Remains Stable

Provincial representatives informed the meeting that wheat supplies remain stable across the country, with no immediate shortage expected. They said authorities are continuing strict action against hoarding and market manipulation to prevent artificial shortages and unjustified price increases.

Cheema said wheat stocks would be released to provinces in line with agreements signed with PASSCO, adding that additional supplies would be provided whenever required. The meeting also discussed the possibility of importing wheat to strengthen strategic reserves if needed, with Cheema stressing that any such decision would follow a detailed assessment of domestic market conditions and would not compromise the interests of local farmers.

Rana Tanveer Hussain said PASSCO is fully supporting provincial governments in managing wheat stocks and ensuring smooth supply. Concluding the meeting, Cheema reaffirmed the federal and provincial governments’ commitment to maintaining uninterrupted wheat availability, market stability, and protecting both consumers and farmers. – ERMD
