NEA KP Executive Committee Raises Concerns Over PEC Governance -

An Executive Committee meeting of the PEC Engineers Alliance (NEA Chapter Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) was held at the Peshawar Garrison Club on Saturday and was attended by a large number of elected Governing Body members, Governing Body members, and Executive Committee members. The meeting was convened to review the performance of the present PEC Governing Body and to discuss the way forward in light of the commitments made to the engineering community during the election campaign.

During the meeting, serious concerns were expressed regarding the functioning and performance of the present setup. The elected Governing Body members informed the forum that they have largely remained uninvolved in key decision-making processes and have not been taken into confidence on important matters. It was observed that decisions are being taken unilaterally, contrary to the spirit of collective leadership and teamwork that formed the basis of our election manifesto.

The participants noted with concern that several major commitments made to the engineering community remain unfulfilled. These include:
1. Meaningful representation and empowerment of young engineers, including a commitment to secure at least ten seats for young engineers in the Governing Body.
2. Creation of overseas employment opportunities for Pakistani engineers through organized international job fairs and professional networking initiatives.
3. Protection of engineering jobs and positions currently occupied by non-engineers, a matter that continues to adversely affect both young and mid-career engineers.
4. Upgradation of engineering curricula and professional development programs to align with emerging technologies, global standards, and the rapidly evolving requirements of the engineering profession.

The forum expressed its dissatisfaction over the lack of tangible progress on these critical issues. It was emphasized that the present Governing Body was elected on the basis of a collective manifesto and with the active support of the alliance leadership and members. Therefore, implementation of the manifesto is a collective responsibility and cannot be achieved through a one-person approach.

The meeting unanimously urged the Chairman and the present leadership to immediately take corrective measures, restore consultative decision-making, and constitute an effective team-based mechanism involving all elected representatives. A comprehensive action plan should be developed and implemented without delay to achieve the remaining objectives within the limited tenure left for the current Governing Body.

The participants reaffirmed their commitment to the engineering community and emphasized that the confidence and trust placed in them over the past twenty-one years must be honored through performance, transparency, and collective leadership. It was noted that this is the first time the alliance has faced such widespread concern regarding the implementation of its commitments.

The forum therefore strongly urges the present leadership to wake up to the challenges facing the engineering profession and ensure that the election manifesto is pursued in both letter and spirit. Failure to undertake meaningful corrective action may compel alliance members to place the facts before the engineering community and the media, and to publicly dissociate themselves from decisions and actions that do not reflect the commitments on which the mandate was secured. – PR
