
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to modernising its ports, promoting the blue economy and advancing environmental sustainability as part of the government’s maritime reform agenda.
During a meeting in Istanbul with International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez, the minister outlined Pakistan’s initiatives to attract investment in the maritime sector, strengthen international cooperation and support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The two sides discussed expanding collaboration in ship recycling, maritime governance, the blue economy and environmental protection.
Junaid Chaudhry highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to conserve coastal ecosystems through large-scale mangrove plantation and other sustainable initiatives.
Dominguez welcomed Pakistan’s progress in maritime reforms and commended its efforts to strengthen maritime governance, develop sustainable ship recycling practices and unlock the potential of the blue economy.
He also expressed interest in visiting Pakistan to further deepen cooperation and review the country’s ongoing maritime initiatives.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation between Pakistan and the IMO to promote a safer, more sustainable and competitive maritime sector while creating new opportunities for investment and growth in the blue economy.-ERMD
