The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has welcomed the transfer of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to the private sector, describing the successful privatisation as a landmark achievement in the country’s economic reform programme.
In a statement, FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh said the transparent privatisation of the national carrier marked a significant milestone and reflected the government’s commitment to strengthening the economy through structural reforms.
He said the private sector fully supports the government’s efforts to stabilise the economy and congratulated the airline’s new owners and the management of PIA Equity Limited, a subsidiary of the Arif Habib-led consortium, on completing the transaction.
Sheikh said the consortium’s investment would help drive operational reforms, modernise PIA’s fleet and expand its route network, positioning the airline for long-term growth.
He expressed confidence that the successful privatisation of PIA would pave the way for further reforms, reduce the financial burden on the national exchequer through greater private sector participation, and improve the airline’s operational efficiency.
The FPCCI chief also voiced confidence that the new management would preserve PIA’s legacy while transforming it into a modern, world-class airline.-ERMD
