PAKISTAN
Pakistan and South Korea are expanding agricultural cooperation with the proposed Seed Potato Production and Supply Centre (SPPSC) at PARC, Islamabad. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain chaired a detailed briefing with a KOICA research team, which presented the project’s feasibility study.
The Minister said the SPPSC would help Pakistan cut its dependence on imported seed potatoes and achieve self-sufficiency through aeroponics, tissue culture, and modern cold-chain technology. The project is expected to raise productivity, improve access to certified virus-free seed, and benefit more than 100,000 farmers.
KOICA Director Mr. Je Ho Yeon commended PARC’s research achievements and reaffirmed Korea’s readiness to transfer advanced seed potato technologies to Pakistan. The centre will include aeroponics units, screen houses, laboratories, postharvest systems, and ERP-based traceability. Both sides agreed to fast-track collaboration to strengthen food security and agricultural innovation in Pakistan. – ERMD
