
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation Muhammad Ali and Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari held high-level consultations with Turkish authorities in Istanbul at the invitation of Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar.
The discussions focused on power sector privatisation, investment promotion, commercialization, and reforms. Muhammad Ali highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to a transparent and investor-friendly privatisation program aligned with international best practices, noting that the government is pursuing strategic power sector transactions and engaging with global partners to benefit from successful experiences.
He emphasized the importance of policy consistency, regulatory certainty, improved corporate governance, and commercially viable market structures in attracting private investment.
Awais Leghari briefed the Turkish side on ongoing reforms aimed at improving the performance of distribution companies, reducing losses, strengthening governance, and enhancing efficiency across the electricity sector.
The Turkish side expressed readiness to share expertise in electricity distribution privatisation, regulatory frameworks, and power sector governance. Minister Bayraktar assured continued cooperation between Turkish institutions, investors, and Pakistani authorities.
Both sides agreed to strengthen collaboration in power sector privatisation, governance reforms, and regulatory capacity building, while exploring opportunities for Turkish investors to participate in Pakistan’s energy sector transformation.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthening Pakistan–Türkiye cooperation in the energy sector.-ERMD
