Prof. Dr. Khadija Qureshi Appointed Dean of Faculty at MUET -

The Government of Sindh has appointed Prof. Dr. Khadija Qureshi as Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical, Process & Earth Engineering at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, for a three-year term.

According to a notification issued by the Universities & Boards Department, Government of Sindh, on September 2, 2026, the appointment has been made under Section 6(1) of the First Statutes of the Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro Act, 1977, as amended from time to time.

Prof. Dr. Qureshi has a long association with MUET, particularly with its Department of Chemical Engineering, where she has served as a professor and chairperson. Her academic career has combined teaching, research and professional leadership, with a particular focus on chemical and environmental engineering.

Her research has largely centred on water and wastewater treatment, including the removal of arsenic and other toxic metals from contaminated water. She has worked on developing low-cost adsorbents from agricultural waste for water treatment and has supervised postgraduate research in areas including groundwater treatment and industrial wastewater.

A profile published by the World Engineering Day platform describes Dr. Qureshi as having nearly 28 years of professional experience in chemical and environmental engineering and identifies her as a leading researcher in water treatment and the removal of toxic metals from drinking water. The profile also credits her with more than 45 peer-reviewed journal articles, two patents and more than 20 scholarly awards.

She has also been involved in international academic and professional activities. According to her IntechOpen profile, she collaborated with the University of Arizona under the Pakistan-US Science and Technology Programme and has participated in and organised international conferences and presented research in several countries.

Dr. Qureshi has also played a role in promoting women in engineering. She has served as president of the Society of Women Engineers in Pakistan and has been involved in initiatives aimed at encouraging women to pursue engineering and professional careers.

At MUET, she has also contributed to academic quality and engineering education. The university has identified her as a convener of its Outcome Based Education committee, and she has conducted faculty training on the implementation of OBE systems, curriculum alignment and assessment mechanisms.

The new appointment places her at the head of a faculty covering mechanical, process and earth engineering disciplines, bringing her experience in chemical engineering, environmental research, postgraduate supervision and academic administration to a wider engineering portfolio.
