A delegation from US-based server and data center manufacturer Super Micro Computer Inc. (Supermicro) has visited Pakistan to assess the feasibility of deploying next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) chips at Data Vault Pakistan’s facility in Karachi.
The feasibility study is focused on Nvidia’s latest Blackwell-generation AI hardware, including the B200 and B300 accelerators and the GB300 NVL72 platform, a liquid-cooled system that integrates 72 Blackwell Ultra GPUs for high-performance AI computing. Any deployment of these advanced chips, however, will remain subject to US export approvals, which are evaluated separately from Data Vault’s existing GPU authorizations.
Headquartered in San Jose, California, Supermicro has been rapidly expanding its sovereign AI infrastructure business worldwide. The company works with Telenor on sovereign AI and AI-RAN solutions globally, a partnership that could strengthen its presence in Pakistan through Telenor Pakistan’s collaboration with Data Vault. Supermicro has also expanded its regional footprint through a multi-year USD 20 billion agreement signed with Saudi Arabia’s DataVolt in 2025 to develop hyperscale AI campuses.
Data Vault Pakistan launched the country’s first sovereign AI cloud in December 2025 in partnership with Telenor Pakistan, enabling local businesses to access Nvidia enterprise-grade GPUs hosted within the country. The company says it has secured more than 3,000 Nvidia GPUs through approved supply channels after meeting stringent US technical, compliance, and financing requirements despite Pakistan’s restricted status for advanced chip exports.
Industry estimates suggest Pakistan spends USD 700–800 million annually on foreign cloud and computing services. Expanding domestic AI infrastructure could help retain that spending within the country while ensuring sensitive data remains locally hosted. Meanwhile, competition in the sector is growing, with Gul Ahmed Energy Group’s Quantum Global Data Centre recently announcing plans to establish a USD 230 million Tier III data center in partnership with Huawei, expected to begin operations in 2027. – ERMD
