LinkedIn has introduced a new feature allowing users to report posts they believe rely heavily on artificial intelligence (AI), marking a shift in the platform’s approach to AI-generated content amid growing concerns over authenticity and content quality.
The move comes despite LinkedIn’s earlier push to integrate AI-powered writing tools that helped users rewrite posts and other content. The company now says it wants to encourage more genuine conversations and reduce the spread of what has become known as “AI slop” — content that appears overly polished, robotic and lacking originality.
“AI slop is a top priority for all of us,” LinkedIn Chief Product Officer Hari Srinivasan said, adding that people use the platform to connect with real individuals and share authentic perspectives, ideas and expertise.
As part of the initiative, LinkedIn will expand profile and page verification to make it easier for users to identify genuine contributors. The company is also replacing its AI-powered “enhance your post” feature with a proofreading tool that corrects grammar and clarity without altering a user’s writing style or voice.
According to Srinivasan, LinkedIn found that many users relied on AI because they lacked confidence in writing longer, professional posts. The new proofreading feature is intended to help users improve their content while preserving authenticity.
Industry observers say the change reflects a broader shift in how social media platforms are responding to the rapid rise of AI-generated content. Matt Maher, CEO of M7 Innovations, noted that LinkedIn’s algorithm had previously rewarded AI-style writing, making such posts more visible and encouraging their widespread use.
Research cited by Kinsta and a report by 404 Media estimate that between 30% and 41% of LinkedIn content may be AI-generated. Many users have welcomed the latest changes, viewing them as a step toward promoting original human-created content and improving the quality of discussions on the professional networking platform. – TS/ERMD
