Brunei’s Vision 2035 will require strong and resilient economic growth, greater productivity and a stronger private sector to achieve the country’s long-term development goals, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Nazmi Haji Mohamad said on Saturday.
Speaking during a Legislative Council session, Nazmi said increasing productivity through technology and innovation would be essential to building a dynamic and sustainable economy.
He highlighted the need to strengthen the private sector, particularly micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, while encouraging greater local and foreign direct investment. According to the minister, expanding private-sector activity would help diversify the economy and create more employment opportunities for Bruneians.
Nazmi also stressed the importance of creating a favourable working environment for local workers and ensuring that economic development translates into better opportunities for the country’s population.
He said maintaining macroeconomic stability would remain a key part of Brunei’s economic development strategy. This would involve improving overall economic performance while keeping inflation under control and at a stable level.
The minister’s remarks come as Brunei continues efforts to achieve the objectives of Vision 2035, the country’s long-term development framework focused on building a diversified, sustainable and prosperous economy.-ERMD/TS
