OGDCL Announces Major Oil and Gas Discovery in Sanghar

According to the company, testing of the Massive Sand reservoir within the Lower Goru Formation through a cased-hole Drill Stem Test (DST) resulted in the production of 2,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 1.1 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD). The test was conducted at a choke size of 32/64 inch, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,050 psi.

OGDCL, which holds a 100 percent working interest in the mining lease, re-entered the Bobi Deep-1 well on May 3, 2026, to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Lower Goru Formation. The well was drilled to a total depth of 3,305 meters in the Sembar Formation using the company’s in-house technical and operational expertise.

The company described the discovery as a major milestone, marking the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Massive Sand play in the Bobi and Dhamraki lease area. OGDCL said the find not only establishes a new exploration play but also reduces exploration risk for similar prospects in the surrounding region, creating fresh opportunities for future resource development.

The discovery is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s indigenous energy resources, help narrow the country’s energy supply-demand gap, and add to both OGDCL’s and the nation’s hydrocarbon reserves. The development also underscores the continued potential of Pakistan’s sedimentary basins in enhancing domestic energy security. – ER
