OGDCL Strikes First Kingriali Formation Oil Discovery in Kohat

According to the company, the exploratory well has successfully tested 2,280 barrels per day (BPD) of oil and 5.6 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas through a 32/64″ choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of 2,400 psi. This marks the first-ever oil and gas discovery from the Kingriali Formation in the Nashpa Block.

OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65% working interest, alongside joint venture partners Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) with 30% and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) with 5% carried interest.

The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was spud-in on December 24, 2024 and drilled to a total depth of 5,170 meters into the Kingriali Formation. The well encountered a 90-meter interval of Triassic-age reservoir, and following promising hydrocarbon indications along with interpretation of open-hole wireline logs, OGDCL conducted a successful cased-hole drill stem test (DST).

OGDCL said the discovery not only de-risks deeper exploration prospects in the region but will also help bridge Pakistan’s energy supply-demand gap by contributing additional indigenous hydrocarbon resources. The company stated that the find will enhance the reserves portfolio of OGDCL, its JV partners, and ultimately the country. – ER News Desk
