Pakistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to establish a joint research centre at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University to strengthen cooperation in higher education, research, science, technology, and innovation.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, Wajiha Qamar, and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Rector Professor Zhanseit Tuimebayev as part of the minister’s official visit to Kazakhstan. The proposed Kazakhstan–Pakistan Research Centre will be established under a Memorandum of Cooperation and will serve as a platform for collaborative research, academic exchanges, innovation, and joint scientific initiatives between institutions in both countries.
During the meeting, the minister praised the university’s academic and research achievements and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation in higher education and scientific research. She highlighted the progress made by Pakistani universities in artificial intelligence, information technology, digital innovation, and other emerging technologies, saying these areas offer significant opportunities for joint research and knowledge sharing.
Wajiha Qamar also invited the university’s leadership and faculty to visit Pakistan to explore partnerships with leading Pakistani universities, enhance faculty and student exchanges, expand joint research programmes, and promote scientific training and innovation. Professor Tuimebayev welcomed the proposal, noting the university’s growing collaboration with Pakistani institutions through academic mobility, research projects, conferences, and institutional partnerships.
The two sides concluded the meeting by endorsing the proposed initiatives and agreeing to prepare a phased implementation roadmap. They said the research centre would strengthen long-term academic cooperation, promote research excellence and innovation, and further deepen bilateral ties between Pakistan and Kazakhstan. – ERMD
