The Sindh government has issued a notification assigning the additional charge of Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi (KU) to Prof. Dr Muhammad Tufail, the incumbent Vice Chancellor of NED University of Engineering & Technology. He will assume his additional responsibilities from July 28, 2026.
Dr Tufail’s appointment comes upon the completion of the tenure of Prof. Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, whose four-year term as Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi concludes on July 28. Prior to his regular appointment, Dr Iraqi had also served as the acting Vice Chancellor of KU for nearly three years. With the completion of his tenure, he will have led the university for approximately seven years, making him one of the institution’s longest-serving vice chancellors in recent history.
The appointment of Dr Muhammad Tufail is intended to ensure administrative continuity at the University of Karachi until the Sindh government appoints a regular Vice Chancellor through the prescribed selection process. He will continue to perform his duties as Vice Chancellor of NED University while simultaneously holding the additional charge of the University’s top office.
