Sindh to Constitute Expert Task Force on Water Issues, Says CM Murad Ali Shah -

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced that the provincial government will constitute an expert task force to review water-related issues, including the Indus Waters Treaty, the 1991 Water Apportionment Accord, and gaps in their implementation. The task force will also prepare a report on potential losses being incurred by Sindh due to water shortages and related disputes.

Speaking to the media after attending the closing session of the First IAP and PSOA International Insurance Conference 2026 in Karachi on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said Sindh has consistently been receiving less than its allocated share of water. He described India’s water aggression as a matter of serious concern for Pakistan.

He said that while every province is entitled to its constitutionally allocated share of water, Sindh and two other provinces continue to face shortages, whereas Punjab has surplus water. Referring to the Cholistan canals, he said decisions had already been taken and were being implemented, while Sindh’s objections to the Jalalpur Canal project had been placed before the Council of Common Interests (CCI).

Murad Ali Shah reiterated Sindh’s concerns regarding the telemetry system and the functioning of the Indus River System Authority (IRSA). He added that the provincial cabinet is scheduled to meet on Thursday to consider the establishment of the expert task force. – ERMD
