CDA Approves New Islamabad Convention, Expo and Exhibition Centre

The decision was made during the 78th CDA-DWP meeting, chaired by Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Senior officials from the Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Division, Ministry of Interior, Finance Division, CDA Board members, and project consultants attended the session.

According to a CDA spokesperson, NICEEC will be a multifunctional, state-of-the-art complex, capable of hosting national and international conventions, trade exhibitions, cultural festivals, and large-scale events. The project is expected to enhance Islamabad’s reputation as a regional hub for commerce, innovation, and cultural exchange.

The centre has been selected as the venue for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in 2027, making its timely completion a strategic priority. The project has been allocated a completion timeline of 18 months, with strict directives to maintain international standards in design, quality, and functionality.

Chairman Randhawa highlighted that the facility would fill a long-standing infrastructural gap in the capital. “This facility will provide Islamabad with a world-class venue for global engagement and major conferences,” he said, urging departments to adhere to deadlines and ensure uncompromised quality.

In addition, the CDA-DWP also approved six new pedestrian bridges worth Rs574.682 million. These bridges aim to reduce accidents, ease traffic congestion, and improve accessibility for schoolchildren, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. –APP/ER News Desk
